Preparation and pumping of cement in oil wells
is called oil well cementing. Oil well cementing operations are performed for different purposes: – To seal the space between the casing or liner in the well (drilled casing or liner) and the drilled formation, which is called annulus. – To block an area From the formation in which drilling mud is wasted during drilling in that area, which is called the lost circulation zone.
– To place a hard and strong area, which is the cement plug, to divert the well. This means that by placing a few meters of cement slurry in the well and after closing and hardening it, with directional drilling tools, the well is deflected at a specific point. It should be noted that the point from which the well is to be deflected or tilted (KOP), should be hard and strong enough that this can be done by placing a cement plug or a piece of metal (whipstock) .
This plug
is reinforced with a central core of phenolic resin or aluminum core and rubber resistant to wear and temperature of 170 degrees Celsius, and according to its design, the sealing operation is completely done and is able to apply pressure up to 600PSI, which is black .
Cementing plug is used to separate the cement slurry from the mud and prevents the mud and slurry from mixing to maintain the quality of the cementing.
